Mason Greenwood has been spotted back in Manchester during the summer break, maintaining his fitness as speculation continues over his future at Marseille.
The 23-year-old forward, who made a permanent move to the French club from
Manchester United in 2024 for £26.6 million, has been using the off-season to train at familiar grounds.
Greenwood was joined at a local Manchester facility by his former United academy teammate, D’Mani Mellor, reported the
Manchester Evening News.
Both players came through the ranks at Carrington, though their career paths have since diverged.
Greenwood’s return to Manchester is purely for training purposes during the Ligue 1 off-season.
He has been working on sprinting and shooting drills with Mellor on the new 3G pitch at Chadderton FC in Oldham, a club in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.
This comes after a highly successful debut campaign at Marseille, where Greenwood scored 22 goals and provided six assists in 36 matches across all competitions, helping the club secure Champions League qualification for the 2025-26 season.
Despite ongoing transfer rumours and interest from clubs such as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, Marseille have indicated they intend to keep Greenwood for at least another year.
The club recently posted on social media, “Looking forward to more, Mason,” suggesting he remains in their plans.
Greenwood himself has expressed his desire to play in the Champions League with Marseille, stating, “I hope to be here next year to play in the Champions League.
"Some players tell me that playing in the Champions League here is something special. It was a very positive season. We achieved all our goals, we qualified for the Champions League.”
Greenwood’s contract at Marseille runs until 2029. He is also in the process of switching international allegiance from England to Jamaica, aiming to join the Reggae Boyz for their bid to reach the 2026 World Cup.
For now, Greenwood is focused on staying sharp ahead of pre-season, with Marseille set to play friendlies against Al-Jazira and Valencia in late July as preparations begin for the new Ligue 1 campaign.
