Manchester United are intensifying efforts to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, with the transfer saga entering a decisive phase.
United have already seen two bids rejected by Brentford, with their latest offer—a package worth £55 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons—falling short of Brentford’s demands.
The London club are holding out for at least £65 million for the 25-year-old forward, who is coming off an outstanding season and is seen as a key target for new manager Ruben Amorim’s attacking rebuild.
Despite the setbacks, there is growing optimism at Old Trafford that a deal is close.
Trusted sources say that United and Brentford are not far apart in their valuations, and negotiations are ongoing regarding the structure of the deal, particularly around payment terms and achievable add-ons, reported the Manchester Evening News.
Fabrizio Romano has indicated that both clubs are working towards a solution, with a full agreement now described as “just a whisker away”.
Mbeumo has made his intentions clear: he wants to join Manchester United and has instructed his representatives to focus solely on securing a move to Old Trafford.
He has reportedly informed all parties that he is not interested in joining any other club, including Tottenham, who have shown interest but are yet to make a formal offer.
This strong preference for United is seen as a significant advantage in negotiations.
Brentford’s tough stance is bolstered by their contractual position. While Mbeumo’s current deal is set to expire next year, the club holds a 12-month extension option, effectively tying him down until 2027 and allowing them to demand a premium fee.
The situation is further complicated by Brentford’s new manager, Keith Andrews, who is keen to keep hold of one of the club’s most valuable assets.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are determined to add Mbeumo to their squad as part of a broader attacking overhaul, having already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Mbeumo is expected to slot into one of the two No.10 roles in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, partnering with Cunha behind the central striker.
With both clubs continuing direct talks and United remaining confident, the transfer could be finalized soon if Brentford’s valuation is met and the deal structure is agreed upon
