Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford forward
Bryan Mbeumo is reaching a critical stage, with negotiations intensifying and a rival bid from Tottenham Hotspur adding pressure on the Red Devils to close the deal quickly.
According to
The Sun,
United have submitted a fresh offer worth over £60 million, structured with a base fee and performance-based add-ons. Brentford are holding firm on their valuation, believed to be in the region of £65 million, and want the full amount guaranteed.
Mbeumo, 25, is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford, where he would be a central figure in Rúben Amorim’s rebuild.
Sources close to the player say he’s excited by the prospect of joining United, who have made him a priority target following the departures — or expected exits — of Antony, Jadon Sancho, and potentially Marcus Rashford.
“This would be the biggest move of my career,” Mbeumo reportedly told a friend. “I want to test myself at the top level, and United gives me that chance.”
However, Tottenham have entered the race, hoping to hijack the deal by offering Champions League football — something United cannot match after finishing 15th in the Premier League.
Mbeumo is also expected to earn a significant pay rise — jumping from his current £50,000-a-week salary to around £250,000-per-week, putting him among United’s top earners.
Despite some concerns over the wage structure, United are prepared to meet the terms to land a player who contributed 20 goals and 8 assists last season in all competitions.
Amorim views Mbeumo as a perfect fit for his 3-4-3 system, capable of pressing aggressively, creating from wide areas, and playing on either flank. He is seen as more tactically reliable than the players currently on the books.
“He’s one of the smartest wingers in the league,” a Premier League analyst told The Athletic. “He makes others better.”
The coming days will be decisive. If United can fend off Spurs and strike an agreement with Brentford, Mbeumo could become the second signing of the Amorim era — and a statement of intent.
