Manchester United are reportedly close to sealing a £62.5 million deal for
Matheus Cunha, with multiple sources suggesting that the Wolves forward is on the verge of becoming the first major signing of the
Rúben Amorim era.
Cunha, 25, has enjoyed a standout season at Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring 15 goals and contributing 6 assists in the Premier League.
His blend of pace, movement, and creative flair has made him one of the most in-demand forwards in English football — and United appear to have won the race for his signature.
According to
TEAMtalk and Fabrizio Romano, negotiations are at an advanced stage, with “very positive conversations” ongoing between the clubs.
Cunha is said to be eager to join United, even in the absence of Champions League football — a rare show of commitment that has impressed the Old Trafford hierarchy.
“Cunha loves Manchester United. It’s not about money — he wants the project,” reported Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol.
The Brazilian is expected to earn £200,000 per week, doubling his current wage. His arrival could offer much-needed firepower to a United side that has scored just 38 goals in 33 league games this season — a record among the worst in the top half of the table.
Amorim reportedly views Cunha as the perfect fit for his fluid front line, capable of playing as a central striker, second forward, or wide attacker. He’s also admired for his work rate and pressing — key traits in Amorim’s tactical system.
However, United face competition. Arsenal, Newcastle, and clubs in Saudi Arabia have all shown interest, and Wolves could yet hold out for a higher offer closer to Cunha’s £64 million release clause.
United’s financial constraints under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) mean that outgoings — potentially including Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Casemiro — will be crucial in funding the deal.
If completed, Cunha’s signing would mark a major statement from INEOS and Amorim, signalling intent to rebuild United’s attack with hunger and versatility at the core.
