Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Danish defender Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in a £29.2 million deal.
The 20-year-old has signed a contract at Old Trafford until June 2030, with an option for an additional year.
The transfer fee includes £25 million upfront, with an additional £4 million in performance-related bonuses.
Dorgu, who is expected to feature as a left wing-back, expressed his excitement about joining the club.
“I am incredibly proud to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family," Dorgu said.
"I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim—his vision for this team and the club’s future is incredibly exciting.
"There is a clear plan for my development, and I feel Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and achieve my ambitions.”
United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, highlighted Dorgu’s potential and how he fits into Amorim’s squad.
“Patrick is an exciting talent; his defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability, and work rate will make him a key part of our squad," said Wilcox.
"At just 20 years old, he has already had an impressive start to his career, and we are confident he will continue to develop under our excellent coaching team.”

United’s Long-Standing Left-Back Problem Addressed

United had been on the lookout for a left-back after Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia missed most of the season through injury, forcing Diogo Dalot to play out of position.
The club initially pursued PSG’s Nuno Mendes before shifting focus to Dorgu. After having a £23 million bid rejected, United successfully negotiated a final deal worth £29.2 million.
Dorgu underwent his medical at Carrington on Saturday after flying into Manchester to finalize his transfer. His arrival strengthens Amorim’s squad as the Portuguese coach continues to shape his 3-4-3 system.

Two-Week Transfer Saga Finally Concludes

United’s pursuit of Dorgu was a drawn-out affair, with Lecce initially reluctant to sell. Club president Sticchi Damiani had previously insisted that their priority was keeping key players in January.
“We are trying to resist, as it is in our best interest to keep the key members of our squad," Damiani said last week.
However, after prolonged negotiations, Lecce eventually agreed to a deal, leading to Dorgu’s omission from their 3-1 victory over Parma on Friday night. Lecce boss Marco Giampaolo confirmed the move, stating:
“It’s true, Patrick Dorgu will be flying to Manchester on Saturday. He’s a fantastic player and person. He always gave his best for us, but I didn’t play him tonight because his mind could already be at Old Trafford.”

Dorgu’s Rise and Key Stats

Dorgu has been one of Lecce’s standout performers this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 21 Serie A starts.
Having come through the club’s youth ranks, he made 57 appearances, scoring five goals in total.
His arrival at United marks another long-term investment in the squad’s defensive structure as Amorim builds a team capable of challenging for silverware.
