Patrick Dorgu has spoken for the first time ahead of his arrival at
Manchester United, expressing his excitement about the move.
The Red Devils have agreed a £29 million deal for the Danish left-back, who is flying to England today for his medical.
Speaking to reporters at the airport,
Dorgu kept his comments brief but enthusiastic. When asked if he was excited to join United, he replied: "Yes, it's a great opportunity for me."
Earlier on Saturday, images surfaced on social media showing Dorgu aboard a private plane en route to Manchester.
His move to the Premier League is set to be finalized following one last appearance in Lecce’s matchday squad.
United granted Lecce’s request for Dorgu to be included in their squad for Friday’s 3-1 win against Parma, though he remained an unused substitute.
After the final whistle, Dorgu bid an emotional farewell to the traveling Lecce supporters, acknowledging their cheers with a wave.
Lecce boss Marco Giampaolo later confirmed the defender’s departure, saying: "It's true, Patrick Dorgu will be flying to Manchester on Saturday.
"He's a fantastic player and person who always gave his best for us. I didn’t play him tonight because his mind is already on Old Trafford."
Dorgu’s rapid rise continues with this high-profile move, having made his senior debut against Lazio last season and going on to make 34 appearances in all competitions for Lecce.
His impressive performances also earned him a Denmark international debut in September’s Nations League fixture against Switzerland.
The 20-year-old becomes United’s third major defensive signing this season, following the summer arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt for a combined £102 million.
Dorgu is expected to be in attendance at Old Trafford on Sunday as United take on Crystal Palace, though his official debut could come in the FA Cup against Leicester City, managed by United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.
His arrival addresses a key weakness in Ruben Amorim’s squad, with United struggling at left-back due to the long-term absences of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
In their place, right-backs Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot have had to fill in. Amorim views Dorgu as a perfect fit for his 3-4-2-1 system, which relies heavily on attacking wing-backs.
Dorgu was a priority target for Amorim, with United seeing two bids rejected before finally securing a deal at the third attempt. Now, with his medical pending, he is set to become the first signing of the Amorim era at Manchester United.
