Cristiano Ronaldo is struggling to find "sense" in the tragic loss of Diogo Jota who tragically died in a car crash.
The Manchester United legend had recently hailed the Liverpool striker as one of Portugal’s most exciting attacking prospects.
Ronaldo, who continues to inspire at the highest level even into his 40s, spoke candidly about Jota’s impact on the national team and his club performances.
“Diogo is a fantastic player—he has energy, intelligence, and a real eye for goal,” Ronaldo said in a recent interview. “He’s always willing to work for the team, and you can see how much he has developed over the last few years, especially at Liverpool.”
And now Jota lost his life following a crash in his Lamborghini in northern Spain, just 11 days after he got married.
Ronaldo wrote on Instagram: "Doesn't make any sense. Just now we were together in the National Team, you have just got married.
"To your family, to your wife and children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. R.I.P. Diogo and Andre We will all miss you."
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had previously highlighted Jota’s versatility, noting how he can play across the front line and adapt to different tactical demands.
“What I admire most about Diogo is his adaptability. Whether he’s playing as a winger or through the middle, he always finds a way to make a difference. That’s the sign of a top player.”
Ronaldo also praised Jota’s mentality and professionalism. He said: “He’s humble, hard-working, and always eager to learn. Those qualities are so important at the highest level. I’ve seen how he approaches training and matches—he’s a winner.”
Jota has often cited Ronaldo as an inspiration, both for his relentless drive and his achievements with Portugal.
The two have shared the pitch on numerous occasions, combining for crucial goals in World Cup qualifiers and European Championship matches.
Tragically Ronaldo had also said: “Portugal’s future is bright with players like Diogo. I have no doubt he’ll continue to grow and help our country achieve great things.”
