Former Manchester United star Nani has weighed in on the future of Viktor Gyokeres, predicting that the prolific Sporting CP striker is ready for a major move.
Gyokeres is in the midst of intense transfer speculation linking him with both United and Arsenal.
Nani, who knows Sporting and United intimately, believes Gyokeres has all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League and expects him to make a significant impact wherever he lands.
Speaking about the ongoing transfer saga, Nani said Gyokeres is “ready for the next step” and that his style of play would translate well to English football.
The ex-United winger highlighted Gyokeres’ physicality, work rate, and goalscoring instinct as qualities that make him a standout candidate for a top Premier League club.
Gyokeres has enjoyed a sensational season at Sporting, scoring at an extraordinary rate and drawing attention from Europe’s elite.
Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with the Swede, making them frontrunners, but United remain firmly in the race, especially given Gyokeres’ strong relationship with new United boss Ruben Amorim, his former manager in Lisbon.
Nani’s assessment comes as both Arsenal and United look to bolster their attacking options.
Arsenal are seeking a top-class striker to lead their line and challenge for the Premier League title, while United are desperate to add firepower after a disappointing season in front of goal.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has clarified that although Gyokeres’ “priority” is Arsenal—largely due to the lure of Champions League football—he has not rejected United outright, and the Red Devils remain in contention should Arsenal’s move stall.
Sporting are holding firm on their valuation, reportedly demanding at least €70 million (£59.6m) to begin negotiations, with Arsenal’s opening bid of €55 million already turned down.
Gyokeres’ frustration with Sporting’s stance could also play a role in accelerating his exit, with the striker eager to resolve his future and avoid missing the start of pre-season.
Nani’s endorsement adds further intrigue to one of the summer’s most closely watched transfer battles, with both Manchester United and Arsenal hoping to land a striker capable of transforming their fortunes in the new campaign.
