Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has pinpointed two key positions he aims to strengthen during the January transfer window.
Since his arrival at Old Trafford in November, Amorim has had limited influence on the club's transfer activities, with sales likely needed to fund significant incoming moves.
A long-term priority for Amorim is securing a left-footed left wing-back, a position United are currently struggling to fill effectively.
According to The Athletic, options are being assessed, with Amorim keen to address the imbalance caused by Luke Shaw's continued absence.
Right-footed Diogo Dalot has been filling in under Amorim but is unavailable for the upcoming clash against Southampton due to suspension following his red card in the FA Cup win over Arsenal.
United are finalizing the signing of highly-rated Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño.
The teenager has already been in Manchester to complete formalities, but the deal will not be official until the summer, when Leon turns 18. The initial fee is reported to be around £3 million, with additional add-ons.
Manolo Jimenez, the coach who handed Leon his senior debut, praised the move, saying:"Manchester United have seen in him what I saw. I’m very happy this signing can be completed.
"In Manchester, they will help him develop. Once he improves his decision-making, he’ll become a great player."

Potential Rashford Exit and Attacking Reinforcement

United are also looking to reinforce their attacking ranks amid uncertainty surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future.
The 27-year-old forward has been linked with loan moves to Barcelona and AC Milan after expressing his desire for a new challenge.
However, Rashford's high salary has proven to be a stumbling block in negotiations. United’s willingness to subsidize his wages could be crucial in facilitating a transfer before the window closes.
If Rashford departs, Amorim is keen to secure a replacement to bolster his attack. Among the potential options is Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani, who could be brought in on loan.
With just days remaining in the transfer window, United will need to act swiftly to address their priorities and finalize deals.
Amorim is intent on reshaping the squad to better align with his vision, but the financial constraints and reliance on outgoing transfers make this a challenging task.
