Manchester United are reportedly received an asking price for Zion Suzuki, a player they’ve been tracking for two years.
Once hailed by his former manager as “one of the world’s greatest talents,” Suzuki could now cost United a hefty £40 million—a far cry from the modest sum they could have paid earlier.
United first showed interest in Suzuki before signing Andre Onana as their No.1 goalkeeper.
At the time, the young talent had only played in Japan, making it understandable why the club hesitated to take a gamble.
However, Suzuki’s career trajectory since then suggests United might have missed a golden opportunity.
After a stint in Belgium with St. Truiden, Suzuki joined Parma in a deal worth £8 million, including add-ons.
His performances in Serie B have been nothing short of exceptional, justifying the lofty praise he once received. Suzuki has now been labeled “world-class,” and his valuation has skyrocketed to £40 million, according to Talksport.

Growing Interest from European Giants

United aren’t alone in their admiration for Suzuki. Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the 22-year-old, with a potential bidding war looming next summer.
Suzuki’s meteoric rise means the upcoming transfer window could be one of the last chances for United to secure his signature before he joins a top European side.
And United remain unconvinced by their goalkeeping options as Onana has not shown himself to be reliable, even if he did have a good spell during the first half of the season.
Backup Altay Bayindir impressed in the recent FA Cup win over Arsenal but he also looked shaky at crosses and with the ball at his feet. United also have young prospects Radek Vitek and Elyh Harrison who are showing promise.
However, if United truly believe in Suzuki’s potential, they may need to act decisively. At 22, Suzuki has his best years ahead of him, and bringing him in could create healthy competition for the No.1 spot.
This approach would align with United’s long-term planning, ensuring they don’t miss out on a generational talent.

A Decision for the Future

United’s decision will hinge on multiple factors, including Suzuki’s perceived ceiling, the club’s financial flexibility, and their willingness to invest in a position that isn’t an immediate priority.
If they delay, Suzuki could end up at an elite club, making him unattainable in the future.
The coming summer might be United’s best—and perhaps final—opportunity to bring Suzuki to Old Trafford. If the Red Devils are as convinced as others of his potential, they should act boldly to secure the young talent before it’s too late.
