Manchester United are pushing to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha.
The German club has no plans to sell the player but they are worried about the interest from the
Red Devils and the chance they could force through a deal.
The 24 year old moved to the Black and Yellows from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023 for €30 million. The German international has established himself as a regular starter in Dortmund (19 Bundesliga games/2 goals this season) and has impressed with his versatility.
Dortmund’s season has been disappointing so far—currently in 6th place in the Bundesliga. Nevertheless, Nmecha is seen as an indispensable part of coach Nuri Sahin’s team. According to
BILD sources, BVB are worried about United’s sudden interest, as they do not want to let the offensive all-rounder go.
At United, manager
Ruben Amorim (40) is said to be a big admirer of Nmecha. Amorim, who took charge in November, aims to inject fresh energy into his squad this summer—and views the BVB star as the perfect fit for the midfield.
According to insiders, the Red could be prepared to offer a transfer fee of around €50 million. But BVB is standing firm: Nmecha is under contract until 2028, and any fee would likely need to be significantly higher to persuade Dortmund to budge.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl (45) recently stressed that the club intends to build around young, ambitious players like Nmecha.
It remains to be seen whether United will follow through with an offer—or if BVB will successfully hold onto their star. It comes as United are attempting to reduce their costs and so on the surface this would mean that they would not be willing to pay over the odds on the player. A lot will also depend on which players move on from Old Trafford in the summer.
