Manchester United will head into this summer’s transfer window aiming to back Ruben Amorim with funds to continue his rebuild of the squad at
Old Trafford.
But there could be a trio of unexpected windfalls heading the club’s way as well.
It’s no secret that they will be targeting a new striker while the futures of Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and
Casemiro will also determine how much United have to spend.
And there could be three other deals that provide a financial boost for the Reds. In January, United allowed three players to leave on loan and while two of those deals are working out better than the other, all three could yet profit the club.
Jadon Sancho has kickstarted his career back at Chelsea, where he has two goals and six assists in 14 Premier League games. The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund and his form in London has reignited interest from the German club.
Sancho’s loan to Chelsea includes an obligation to buy for a fee of between £20m and £25m, depending on certain clauses, which include Chelsea qualifying for the Champions League. If Dortmund were to follow up their interest then United could negotiate a deal that sees them land a profit on that fee this summer.
Hannibal Mejbri hasn’t had the impact he would have wanted at Burnley in the Championship this season. The Tunisian midfielder has started just two league games and has played only 255 minutes of league football.
Even so, Burnley have an option to buy Mejbri for £13m this summer and while that looks unlikely at this stage, his situation could change between now and the end of the season. Even if Burnley don’t take up that option, United could look to cash in on a player who doesn’t seem to have a long-term future at Old Trafford.
Then there’s Radek Vitek, who has impressed between the sticks for Accrington Stanley in League Two this season. The 21-year-old Czech goalkeeper has kept eight clean sheets in 25 appearances and has won plenty of praise for his displays.
Accrington don’t have an option to buy Vitek this summer, but his form could yet attract interest from elsewhere. There has already been some tentative interest from clubs in the EFL and in Europe and if he maintains this form until May then United could look to cash in.
United are certainly happy with how both of those January moves have gone. They are generating a summer market with their performances and have 'recharged themselves as footballers'. If that translates into summer sales, then United could get a £60million+ boost to their budget in a key first window under Amorim."
