Former Manchester United star Angel Gomes has reportedly snubbed a move to West Ham this summer.
The 24-year-old left Old Trafford upon the expiration of his contract in 2020 and joined French team Lille on a free transfer.
For these last few years, Gomes has performed consistently in Ligue 1 and earned a call up to the England senior squad for the first time last year. His form has piqued the interest of several Premier League clubs ahead of his deal running out this summer.
Reports claim that West Ham offered Gomes a £100,000-a-week contract but that the midfielder rejected the chance to join the Hammers when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season. It’s claimed he is holding out for another option - with a return to United previously mooted.
Earlier this month, Tottenham were said to have opened talks over a deal while it is reported widely that United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City were keeping tabs on his situation ahead of the summer window.
Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is now in charge at West Ham and is said to be a huge fan of Gomes’ game. The Guardian says he wants to alter the dynamic of his midfield and sees the Englishman as a perfect fit given he can also play as a No.6 or a No.8 - as well as his more accustomed No.10 role.
Gomes spent 14 years with United before his exit five years ago, having joined their academy at the age of six. He made 10 first-team appearances for the Reds and scored eight goals in 19 games for England’s youth sides.
Should he return to Old Trafford, he would provide a versatile option for Ruben Amorim in midfield amid speculation over the futures of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen this summer."
