Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has called on Ruben Amorim to consider bringing Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford amid the club’s growing injury crisis.
United’s squad has been decimated by injuries, forcing Amorim to name a bench full of untested teenagers in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham.
Key players like Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Toby Collyer, Leny Yoro, and Christian Eriksen were all absent due to injuries or illness. Long-term absentees Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martínez, and Mason Mount have only worsened the situation.
Meanwhile, Pogba is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Juventus last year.
The France international was handed a four-year doping ban in February, which was later reduced to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after he successfully argued he hadn’t intentionally taken a banned substance.
Earlier this month, Rio Ferdinand suggested Pogba should be invited to train with the squad, but Saha believes Amorim should go further and offer him a contract.
“Yes, I would take Paul Pogba back at Manchester United in a heartbeat,” Saha told Best Betting Sites.“It’s not just because of the injuries—we need guarantees, quality, confidence, and leadership, and Pogba brings all of that.
Saha believes Pogba has a point to prove after his time away from football and that he could thrive with the right motivation and focus.
“Pogba has the ability to be one of the best midfielders in the league. If he understands where he can improve and adapts his game, he can still be a huge asset. He needs to focus on himself and learn from the past. This is a chance for him to return highly motivated and dedicated.”
The ex-United striker also thinks Pogba would be hungry to prove himself to Amorim, the fans, and the French national team selectors.
“He will want to show Amorim and the Manchester United fans that he is still one of the best players in the world. This could be a great opportunity for both the club and the player.”
Would United be willing to take the gamble? With the squad stretched thin, it remains to be seen if Amorim will consider bringing Pogba back for a second spell at Old Trafford.
