Antony has shown his support for Amad following the winger’s injury setback, as Manchester United face a shortage of attacking options.
The 22-year-old is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering ankle ligament damage in training ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Tottenham.
While he could return before the end of May, Amad shared his frustration on social media. "Extremely disappointed to be writing this message at such a crucial time of the season," he wrote on Instagram.
Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury. I will come back stronger than ever! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for."
Among those offering support was Antony, who commented: "Good recovery, hermano [brother], come back stronger."
Amad has been one of Ruben Amorim’s most dependable attacking options this season, contributing nine goals and six assists. However, with both Antony and Marcus Rashford out on loan—at Real Betis and Aston Villa, respectively—United will need to explore alternative solutions in attack.
Antony has enjoyed a positive start to life in Spain, earning man-of-the-match honors on his debut before scoring in Betis’ 3-2 loss to Celta Vigo.
He followed that up with another goal in a 3-0 Europa League win over Gent.
As for whether United can recall Antony to help fill the void left by Amad, the situation remains unclear.
If a recall clause exists in the loan agreement with Betis, United would only be able to activate it after 28 days, meaning the earliest return date would be February 25. However, if no such clause was included, Antony will remain in Spain until the end of the season.
Meanwhile Amorim has admitted that he is likely to be without Amad for the rest of the season, adding one more problem in a very difficult season for the manager
