Manchester United’s injury crisis deepened after
Amad Diallo suffered a setback in training ahead of their clash with Tottenham.
Ruben Amorim had already warned that several players were struggling with injuries this week.
Earlier reports revealed that Manuel Ugarte, Toby Collyer, and Kobbie Mainoo were all doubtful for Sunday’s trip to London, with Mainoo expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
Now, the situation has worsened, with the Mail reporting that Amad has sustained an ankle ligament injury that could rule him out for the rest of the season.
Amad has been a key figure for United this campaign, delivering several match-winning performances.
He is currently the club’s joint top scorer alongside Bruno Fernandes, both with nine goals in all competitions.
Only Fernandes (12) has registered more assists than Amad (7), making his absence a major blow.
His ability to operate both as a wing-back and in the front three, coupled with his intelligence in pressing, has made him a vital player under Amorim.
Fans reacted with dismay on social media, with one saying: “It feels like last season repeating itself… maybe worse!”
Another added: “So that’s Amad, Mainoo, Ugarte, Collyer out. What is going on?” Others feared the worst, with comments like “United could get relegated.”
With Amad’s injury, Amorim now has just three recognized attackers available: Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, and Alejandro Garnacho.
The mounting injury list has forced the United boss to call up several academy players to first-team training.
According to AcademyScoop, five Carrington youngsters—Chido Obi, Sékou Koné, Harry Amass, Jack Moorhouse, and Elyh Harrison—have been included in the squad to face Tottenham.
Moorhouse, 19, was selected after impressing for the Under-21s. Amorim personally watched him during a 5-1 win over Southampton in December, where he scored twice.
Striker Chido Obi and winger James Scanlon were absent from the Under-18 squad’s match on Saturday, indicating their continued involvement with the first team.
Asked specifically about 17-year-old Obi, Amorim remained cautious: “I don’t want to say names. We have to be careful with that.
"We have problems this week, and we called some young players to train with us. We have some data evaluation. He is one of them.”
The injury crisis also saw 21-year-old goalkeeper Hubert Graczyk named on the bench for the first time in United’s FA Cup win over Leicester, as both Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton were unavailable.
Graczyk is effectively the seventh-choice goalkeeper at the club, but with fifth and eighth-choice keepers Elyh Harrison and William Murdock also in training, United’s depth is being seriously tested.
Meanwhile, new signing Ayden Heaven was also named on the bench following his arrival from Arsenal, while Patrick Dorgu started against Leicester but was substituted at half-time during the 2-1 victory.
