Manchester United have been warned that Ruben Amorim ‘wants to leave’ as his troubled tenure at Old Trafford continues to unravel.
The 40-year-old manager arrived during the November international break, but his impact has been underwhelming.
United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday marked their eighth Premier League defeat under Amorim, leaving them 15th in the table—their worst league campaign in 51 years.
This season is United’s first full campaign under minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has implemented sweeping changes, including brutal staff cuts that could see over 100 more redundancies.
Amid this turmoil, broadcaster Richard Keys launched a scathing attack on Ratcliffe’s leadership and issued a stark warning about Amorim’s commitment.
“When Ratcliffe arrived, he was welcomed as a hero. Fans wanted to believe. But it’s all gone horribly wrong,” Keys wrote in his blog.
“It’s never been this bad. United are now little more than ‘bits and pieces’—a laughing stock. They’ve got a manager who clearly doesn’t want to be there, a cycling expert in charge of football matters, and an owner flailing about without a clue what to do next—except sack more good people.”
Despite growing criticism, Amorim insists he remains committed to the club. After the defeat at Spurs, he reaffirmed his focus on the team’s improvement rather than his own future.
“You start with one idea, but then injuries force you to change things, and it becomes really difficult,” Amorim said.
“The best thing now is to forget the past, not focus on the schedule, the context, or the moment—just work and prepare for the next game.”
The under-fire manager dismissed concerns about his job security, stating that his only priority is helping the team climb the table.
“I’m not worried about me—I’m worried about the club, the team, the players. I hate losing, it’s the worst feeling. My only focus is to win games.”
With United’s form continuing to decline, the pressure on Amorim and Ratcliffe is mounting—raising serious doubts about the club’s future direction.
