Wayne Rooney has pleaded with the Manchester United hierarchy not to make a "silly decision" on Michael Carrick.
Speculation has been rife over whether the interim boss will continue at the end of the season.
Many ex-players and pundits have given their opinions including Roy Keane and Gary Neville who believe the club need to go for someone more experienced.
While Rooney has highlighted what Carrick brings to the club and doesn't want the board to go out and bring someone else in without considering him first.
"He's adapting to different things, he's coaching, he's got Steve Holland in there as a coach explaining everything he's doing so you've got something there in front of you, please don't make any silly decisions," said Rooney.
And referring to Carrick's experience as a player that he can draw on, he said: "Every time we played Arsenal when I was in the team - and this is what he'll be bringing back, his memories and what worked - Arsenal would have a lot of the ball and we'd sit back.
"We didn't even need to work on it on the training pitch, we had a group of players who knew, we were playing Arsenal and this is how we are going to play.
"We would sit there and wait and hit them on the break and he's done that against City and Arsenal so he will have different phases in his mind about the opposition he is playing."
And Rooney says that for Carrick, the biggest game so far was not at home to Manchester City or away to Arsenal.
He continued: "For the Fulham game he will have thought this was a massive game. I spoke to him after the game and he felt that was the biggest game, not the Arsenal or City because they had to play.
"And they came through some difficult moments with Fulham doing really well with the ball, but that mindset and mentality was that we are going to stay in this. If that had been Amorim a few weeks ago 100% we would have not won that game."
