Manchester United endured a frustrating afternoon at Old Trafford as Crystal Palace secured a 2-0 victory on Sunday.
United started brightly, with
Kobbie Mainoo hitting the post in the first half, while Andre Onana produced a superb save to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta, keeping the game goalless at the break.
However, Palace took the lead shortly after the hour mark when
United failed to clear a set piece, allowing Mateta to tap home after the ball rebounded off the crossbar.
United’s woes deepened late on as Lisandro Martinez was stretchered off with a knee injury before Mateta struck again, sealing the win for Palace.
Player Ratings:
Andre Onana – 5
Made a superb save from Mateta in the first half, though the referee mistakenly awarded a goal kick. However, his positioning was questionable for Maxence Lacroix’s header.
Leny Yoro – 5
Struggled positionally and should have made contact with Amad’s inviting cross. Was outjumped by Lacroix for the first goal.
Harry Maguire – 5
Defended solidly early on but was booked for a reckless challenge on Mateta. Played Daniel Muñoz onside in a key moment.
Lisandro Martinez – 6
Engaged in physical duels with Mateta but unfortunately suffered a serious knee injury, forcing him off on a stretcher.
Noussair Mazraoui – 5
Offered more attacking intent than usual but had little impact overall. Substituted after United conceded the opener.
Manuel Ugarte – 5
Fought hard in midfield but was unable to control proceedings against Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes. Forced a good save from Dean Henderson. Booked.
Bruno Fernandes – 5
Tried to create openings, but United lacked cutting edge. Hesitated when he had a shooting opportunity in the 73rd minute.
Diogo Dalot – 4
Unable to build on his goal in midweek. Provided no real attacking threat and was once again playing out of position due to United’s left-back crisis.
Alejandro Garnacho – 6
Had a promising shot blocked early and delivered a dangerous cross that went unanswered. One of United’s few bright sparks.
Amad – 4
Produced a fine cross that Yoro failed to connect with but faded from the game after moving to the wing.
Kobbie Mainoo – 6
Started as a makeshift centre-forward and looked sharp early on, creating a chance for Garnacho and hitting the post. However, he faded after the first 15 minutes.
Substitutes:
Rasmus Højlund – 5
Introduced later than he should have been but made little impact.
Joshua Zirkzee – 5
Came on alongside Højlund but had a sloppy start, kicking the ball out with his first touch.
Matthijs de Ligt – 5
Replaced the injured Martinez. Did his job without any standout moments.
Christian Eriksen – 5
Came on late but failed to influence the game.
Manager Rating:
Ruben Amorim – 4
Showed tactical flexibility by deploying Mainoo as a forward, but United remained blunt in attack. With just two shots on target, he should have made substitutions sooner.
Next Up: United will look to bounce back in their FA Cup clash against Leicester City, where Patrick Dorgu could make his debut.
