Bryan Mbeumo insists Manchester United’s faltering form cannot be blamed solely on Ruben Amorim's system, stressing that the responsibility lies firmly with the players to raise their level.
Speaking after last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Brentford, the forward admitted the result was difficult to take but urged his teammates to take ownership.
“Obviously disappointed with the result,” he said. “I think everyone in the team needs to take responsibility. When you play in a club this big, everyone needs to know what to do. As a team, we need to do better.”
United have endured an inconsistent start to the season, with injuries and suspensions disrupting rhythm. But Mbeumo dismissed the idea that Amorim’s system is to blame.
“I don’t think there is anything wrong about the system,” he told Sky. “It’s just us improving in certain areas. We need to be more ruthless, more focused, and the rest will come.”
The 71-million-pound summer signing also reflected on the process of building chemistry within a reshaped squad.
“It’s exciting, because we get to learn to play with new players and it’s always challenging,” he noted. “But that’s what we like as footballers. Of course it will improve. We haven’t played a lot together, so there are certain things that we’re going to improve.”
For Mbeumo, adapting to life at Old Trafford also means coping with the intensity of scrutiny that follows United players everywhere.
“It’s not that hard to block out the noise,” he said. “The main thing we see is on social media, so it’s just not going on there much, and you just have to stay focused on your own things.”
His message, though, was unambiguous: the players themselves must be the ones to turn the tide.
“We know what’s expected of us here,” Mbeumo concluded. “It’s down to us to step up, to give more on the pitch, and to show the fans that we can deliver.”
With Sunderland visiting Old Trafford on Saturday, United will need that shift in mentality immediately if they are to bounce back.
