Amad’s return to first-team training provided a welcome lift for
Manchester United on Wednesday, as the Reds step up preparations for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Sunderland.
The Ivorian winger had been absent from last Saturday’s trip to Brentford after suffering a family bereavement.
It was a difficult moment for the 22-year-old, who had started five of United’s opening six fixtures this season, playing a central role in Ruben Amorim’s early plans.
United went down
3-1 in his absence, but the focus now shifts to Sunderland’s visit, where Amad could feature against his former club.
Speaking ahead of the Brentford game, Amorim explained the decision to give the winger time away.
“Someone in his family passed away, so we are giving all the support to Amad,” he said. “We understood it was important for him to have his time. We are here for him.”
With his return to training confirmed, Amad is back in contention and working hard to be ready for Saturday’s fixture, stated
ManUtd.com.
His comeback is a timely boost, not only for the manager but also for the squad, which has been stretched by injuries and suspensions.
Fellow returnee Tyrell Malacia was also back with the group on Wednesday, offering another option at left-back. The Dutch defender has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines but his reappearance on the training pitch suggests progress in his recovery.
Not all of Amorim’s squad were present, however. Noussair Mazraoui remained out and is unlikely to return until after the October international break.
Lisandro Martínez, another long-term absentee, continues his rehabilitation as he builds towards a return later in the campaign.
There was further positive news with Casemiro cleared for selection again.
The Brazilian midfielder missed the Brentford defeat through suspension following his red card against Chelsea, but will be available to anchor the midfield once more.
With Amad back among his teammates and Sunderland up next, United will hope to respond immediately to last weekend’s disappointment.
The forward’s return not only strengthens Amorim’s options but also offers an emotional lift, as the Reds seek to rediscover momentum at Old Trafford.
