Manchester United are facing tough competition from Tottenham Hotspur for
Bryan Mbeumo.
United had taken early strides in negotiations, submitting a bid in excess of £60 million and offering a significant wage increase — reportedly rising from £50,000 to £250,000 per week.
The player, 25, is said to be open to the move, and has privately expressed excitement about linking up with
Rúben Amorim, whose fast-paced 3-4-3 system suits Mbeumo’s dynamic style.
But with Thomas Frank recently appointed at Spurs, the landscape has shifted for the Brentford player.
“Frank knows how to get the best out of Mbeumo,” said one Premier League insider, reported
The Sun. “Spurs see him as an immediate upgrade for their right side.”
Mbeumo scored 20 goals and provided 8 assists last season, firmly establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent wide forwards.
His ability to press, cut inside, and interchange across the front line makes him a perfect fit for Amorim’s fluid system — particularly as United look to phase out underperformers like Antony and Jadon Sancho.
However, Spurs can offer something United currently cannot: Champions League football.
With the north London club in a position of strength, Mbeumo’s decision may come down to project vs prestige — and whether he prefers to reunite with Frank or play a central role in United’s high-profile rebuild.
“We want players who are hungry, versatile, and willing to fight,” Amorim said earlier this week. “Those who choose us will help define this new era.”
Brentford are believed to be holding out for £65 million and prefer a clean sale. A decision is expected before pre-season begins in July.
If United win this battle, Mbeumo would become the second major addition to their frontline alongside Matheus Cunha, helping shape the next generation of attacking power at Old Trafford.
