Ruben Amorim has reportedly lost patience with Alejandro Garnacho and is pushing for the Argentina winger to be sold as soon as possible, with a potential destination already emerging.
It has been a dismal season for United, who currently languish in 14th place, struggling to break into the top half of the table.
While Amorim’s arrival has yet to spark a resurgence, the club at least managed to grind out a 3-2 victory over Ipswich on Wednesday night, securing their 10th win in 23 matches under the Portuguese coach.
A loss could have dragged them dangerously close to a relegation battle—an unthinkable scenario for a club of United’s stature and spending history.
Though the win put them 15 points clear of the drop zone, tensions remain high within the squad. Garnacho’s frustration boiled over when he was substituted, prompting an angry reaction as he stormed down the tunnel.
While Amorim downplayed the incident post-match, it was just the latest episode in a turbulent period for the 20-year-old, who was already on the transfer list in January.

United Ready to Offload Garnacho

According to reports from Spain, Amorim has now informed club officials that he wants Garnacho gone at the earliest opportunity.
Spanish outlet Fichajes claims the Portuguese coach has grown tired of the winger’s behavior, both on and off the field, which has reportedly created issues in the dressing room. The club’s hierarchy is also said to be running out of patience, having already considered offers in the winter transfer window.
Napoli engaged in extensive negotiations for Garnacho in January following the sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG. Chelsea also showed interest, though they never formalized an approach for the Argentina international.
Despite failing to meet United’s reported €65m (£53.7m, $68.1m) valuation in January, Napoli remains keen and is expected to revisit a deal in the summer. The report suggests the Serie A side views Garnacho as a valuable addition to bolster their attacking options, bringing pace and flair to their squad.
However, negotiations will hinge on multiple factors, including United’s asking price and Garnacho’s willingness to move.

Garnacho’s Future in Doubt

For now, Garnacho faces an uphill battle to salvage his United career and regain Amorim’s trust. His emotional reaction on Wednesday has further complicated his situation.
When questioned about the incident, Amorim responded with a touch of humour: “It was cold and wet, maybe? You’re making a connection with Rashford, right? I know, I know. What I’m saying is I’m obviously going to talk with Garnacho about that. So, if you want, we can discuss it in the next press conference.”
Explaining his decision to take Garnacho off, Amorim added: “We have to choose someone to go out, and we also have to think about set pieces, so it was Garnacho. The idea was to switch to a 5-3-1 formation. I know it’s a risk because he’s maybe the only player with one-on-one pace, but I felt the team was in control.”

United’s Transfer Plans: Osimhen and Kane on the Radar

While Garnacho’s future remains uncertain, United are already laying the groundwork for summer reinforcements.
Our transfer correspondent Rudy Galetti has confirmed that the club holds a genuine belief they can secure a deal for Victor Osimhen.
However, new director of recruitment Christopher Vivell will need to fend off competition from at least three other clubs to land the Napoli striker.
With Rasmus Højlund’s goal drought extending to 17 games, United are prioritizing a new striker. Reports suggest Sir Jim Ratcliffe is personally pushing to bring Harry Kane back to the Premier League, enticed by a surprisingly low exit clause in his Bayern Munich contract.
Additionally, United are making progress in talks for highly-rated teenager Geovany Quenda and are also in discussions over a second signing from Sporting Lisbon, which could result in a blockbuster £82.9m double deal.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how United navigate their squad overhaul—starting with the expected departure of Garnacho.
