Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that Alejandro Garnacho is not in the starting lineup against Fulham due to a minor knock.
While the Argentine winger is not fully fit, Amorim suggested he could still make an appearance from the bench if needed.
United face Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round at Old Trafford on Sunday, aiming to build momentum following their midweek win over Ipswich Town. Amorim has made just two changes to his starting XI, with Noussair Mazraoui and Christian Eriksen replacing Patrick Dorgu and Garnacho.
Dorgu’s absence is due to a three-match suspension following his red card against Ipswich, while Garnacho has been benched to avoid unnecessary risk.

Amorim’s Pre-Match Comments on Team Selection

Speaking to MUTV ahead of kickoff, Amorim emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and continuing the strong connection with the fans.
"Every game is important for us. We want to improve our performance and maintain the connection we built in the last match. We need to win games at home and play well."
Addressing Garnacho’s situation, Amorim clarified:
"Chris (Eriksen) has been working really well, and Garna (Garnacho) has a knock. We cannot risk players at this moment, but since this is a cup game that must be decided today, he is on the bench if we need him."
He also highlighted the importance of squad rotation and ensuring players remain fit for the crucial stages of the season.
"It was just a rotation to have fit players. Everybody needs to feel important, and we need to win this game to advance. Right now, we cannot take risks with any player."

Garnacho’s Apology for His Reaction Against Ipswich

After being substituted in the first half against Ipswich, Garnacho was seen heading straight down the Old Trafford tunnel, raising speculation about his reaction. However, Amorim confirmed that the issue was quickly resolved after the youngster approached him the next morning.
"He came to my office the next day. I looked into it, and he had just gone to the dressing room to change his clothes because he was wet. He watched the game, was there at the end, and then went home—so there’s no issue."
Garnacho even apologized and offered to pay for the team’s dinner as a goodwill gesture. Amorim believes such moments are part of a young player’s learning curve and that handling perception is crucial.
"He’s a young kid who will learn. We must consider the context, his age, and the situation. Of course, they have to improve, but we deal with it, move on, and focus on what’s next."
