Manchester United manager
Ruben Amorim has delivered a strong message to his squad, warning that any player deemed detrimental to the team will face an exit this summer.
The 40-year-old has endured a challenging start to life at
Old Trafford, and with financial concerns mounting, club executives have granted him full authority to offload underperforming players.
Amorim has already overseen the January loan departures of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, all with options for permanent exits at the end of the season. However, he has now hinted that an even bigger squad overhaul could take place in the summer.
"I don’t like to be ruthless just for the sake of it," Amorim stated. "If the team is trying but struggling, I understand that. But when I feel that something is harming the team, then I am ruthless."
Players Already Aware of Their Fate
Amorim also revealed that some players already know they will be leaving when the summer transfer window opens.
"Everybody understands that in football, sometimes you stay, and sometimes it’s time to move on," he explained. "I always aim to be clear and honest with my players. As a former player myself, I know that honesty—while sometimes tough—is necessary. Some already know they will have to move on at the end of the season."
However, he stressed that for now, the focus remains on the present, with crucial fixtures ahead.
"We can discuss that in the summer. Right now, we still have a lot of games to play, so it's not a difficult situation."
Opportunities Still Available for Players to Impress
With Manchester United still competing in both the FA Cup and the Europa League, players will have one last chance to prove themselves before Amorim makes his final decisions.
United face Fulham on Sunday in the FA Cup as they look to secure a quarter-final spot, before traveling to Spain on Thursday to take on Real Sociedad in the Europa League last 16.
For those hoping to remain part of Amorim’s project, time is running out.
