Amorim 'gives green light' to bring back Man Utd youngster after success in France

Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Angel Gomes, with the club eager to bring the Lille midfielder back to Old Trafford this summer.

The 24-year-old, who left United in 2020 to join Lille, has since developed into one of Ligue 1’s most complete midfielders, earning international recognition with England.

With his five-year contract set to expire this summer, Gomes has attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs, setting up a potential transfer battle.

Initially linked with Liverpool and Tottenham, United have now emerged as a serious contender for his signature.

United’s new leadership, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is exploring smart transfer options to strengthen the squad while reducing financial strain. A free transfer for Gomes fits this approach, and according to Caught Offside’s Daily Briefing, the move has been given the green light by head coach Ruben Amorim.

Meanwhile, reports suggest United have set their price for Antony, informing Real Betis of their valuation. However, it appears the LaLiga side has instantly cooled interest, unwilling to meet the club’s demands for the underperforming winger.

United are also considering selling Rasmus Højlund, despite signing him for £70m plus bonuses last summer. The Danish striker has struggled for consistency and is currently enduring a 17-game goal drought, dating back to December 12. Italian reports claim United may look to use Højlund as part of a swap deal to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

Additionally, United are in the market for a new goalkeeper, as Andre Onana’s inconsistent performances continue to raise concerns. According to reports, the club is targeting Burnley’s James Trafford, who has been rated the best player in the Championship this season by FotMob. Newcastle are also interested in the England U21 goalkeeper, but United are prepared to offer a lucrative contract to win the race for his signature.
