Man Utd target Real Sociedad midfielder amid Old Trafford summer clearout

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Real Sociedad’s highly sought-after midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to reports.

However, with Liverpool, Arsenal, and even Real Madrid also vying for his signature, can the Red Devils pull off a stunning coup?

Liverpool had high hopes of signing Zubimendi last summer, but the 26-year-old opted to remain at his boyhood club. Now, Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners for his signature ahead of the summer transfer window, but United have reportedly thrown their hat into the ring.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe tightening financial oversight at Old Trafford, Zubimendi’s £51m release clause could represent a smart investment rather than an extravagant purchase.

To accommodate a potential Zubimendi arrival, United could offload veteran midfielders Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. Additionally, Kobbie Mainoo may transition into a permanent attacking midfield role, a position Amorim reportedly favors him in.

Should Zubimendi join, he would likely partner Manuel Ugarte, whom United signed from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. Despite mixed performances, United are said to be happy with Ugarte’s long-term potential.

Amorim has allegedly approved a move for Gomes, and United are prepared to open negotiations with his camp. Unlike Zubimendi, a deal for Gomes appears far more attainable and financially viable.
