Manchester United are open to selling
Garnacho during the January transfer window, primarily to raise funds for new signings.
As a homegrown player, any transfer fee for the Argentine would be recorded as “pure profit” on United’s financial books.
The Red Devils have set a valuation of around £60m for Garnacho but are rumored to consider offers in the region of £55m to expedite the process.
Napoli Take Priority Over Chelsea
Initially, reports from Argentina suggested Garnacho preferred a move to Chelsea.
However, Sky Sports now claims Garnacho has shifted his focus to Napoli, who are searching for a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after his €70m/£59m move to PSG.
Napoli’s first offer of £42m for Garnacho was rejected. In response, the Serie A title contenders explored a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, with talks reportedly nearing an agreement for a fee of €40m/£34m.
However, Adeyemi has expressed his desire to remain at Dortmund until the summer, forcing Napoli to return to negotiations for Garnacho.
Napoli’s Strategy and United’s Financial Pressure
According to Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy, Napoli plan to secure an “agreement in principle” with Garnacho before submitting an improved bid.
However, their revised offer is expected to fall short of United’s £60m valuation, with Napoli hoping to strike a deal for around €55m/£46.3m.
Reddy explained that while Garnacho has been professional and receptive to manager Ruben Amorim’s demands, United’s financial struggles make them more likely to accept a compromise.
Implications for United
If Garnacho leaves, United will need reinforcements in attack. They have already conducted scouting across Europe for potential forwards and are also keen to secure a left wing-back.
Patrick Dorgu, a left-footed player from Lecce, is a key target. United have had two bids rejected, with Lecce demanding €40m/£34m.
However, the club is preparing an improved third offer for Dorgu, regardless of Garnacho’s situation.
Chelsea Remain in the Shadows
While Chelsea remain interested, they appear to be waiting to see how talks between United and Napoli unfold. The Blues could still make a late push if negotiations falter.
Napoli are expected to escalate their efforts to secure Garnacho, with United under pressure to sell due to financial considerations.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could yet emerge as contenders if a deal with Napoli stalls. The coming weeks will determine where Garnacho’s future lies and how United adapt to his potential departure.
