Manchester United secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at
Old Trafford on Wednesday night, overcoming an early setback and a second-half red card.
United fell behind just four minutes in after a defensive mix-up between Patrick Dorgu and
Andre Onana gifted Jaden Philogene an easy tap-in.
However, they quickly responded as a Sam Morsy own goal leveled the score before Matthijs de Ligt put them ahead moments later.
The match took a dramatic turn when Dorgu received a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Omari Hutchinson, allowing Ipswich to capitalize as Philogene netted his second.
But United found the winner early in the second half, with Harry Maguire rising highest to head home and secure all three points.
Manchester United Player Ratings:
Andre Onana – 4
At fault for the early goal, misjudging Philogene’s cross. A nervy performance overall.
Leny Yoro – 7
One of his most composed displays in a United shirt, showing aggression and confidence in possession.
Harry Maguire – 7
Defended well against the lively Liam Delap and delivered the winning goal—his second crucial strike in a month.
Matthijs de Ligt – 7
Scored his first Old Trafford goal with an opportunistic finish but was caught out for Ipswich’s second. Improved after the break.
Diogo Dalot – 5
Frustrated fans with an early misplaced pass and offered little going forward, even before United went down to ten men.
Manuel Ugarte – 6
Struggled to control the midfield battle but showed determination, rallying the crowd late on.
Bruno Fernandes – 7
Influential in all three goals, delivering two excellent dead-ball assists and another pinpoint free kick for Maguire’s winner.
Patrick Dorgu – 2
A night to forget. His lack of awareness led to Ipswich’s opener, and his rash challenge saw United reduced to ten men.
Joshua Zirkzee – 6
Had some nice link-up play but was left isolated after Højlund’s withdrawal, working hard to lead the line alone.
Alejandro Garnacho – 6
United’s most dangerous attacker but was surprisingly substituted after Dorgu’s red card—a decision that seemed unnecessary.
Rasmus Højlund – 4
Anonymous in the first half and should have been the one withdrawn instead of Garnacho. A poor outing.
Substitutes:
Noussair Mazraoui – 6
Disciplined display, balancing defensive duties with a few forward bursts.
Casemiro – 6
Brought experience and steel to the midfield after coming on.
Manager Rating: 5
Rúben Amorim’s decision to start two strikers backfired, and substituting Garnacho was questionable. However, the result ultimately justified his approach.
United’s victory keeps their slim hopes of European qualification alive, but defensive lapses and a lack of attacking fluency remain concerns moving forward.
