Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains in limbo, with plenty of transfer talk but no concrete movements.
Rashford, a product of United’s academy, is set to return to Carrington for pre-season training in early July if no transfer materializes, ahead of the club’s US summer tour.
However, his loan spell at Aston Villa in the 2024/25 season, where he scored four goals and provided six assists in 17 games, has not secured him a place in new manager Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans, prompting intense transfer speculation.
Manchester United recently offered Rashford to Real Madrid for £40 million, but the Spanish giants rejected the proposal, stating he does not fit their player profile, reported the Manchester Evening News.
This setback follows Rashford’s expressed desire to join Barcelona, where he has contacted sporting director Deco to signal his willingness to wait for a move.
However, Barcelona’s focus on Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, combined with their financial constraints, makes a transfer challenging, despite Rashford’s openness to a pay cut from his £325,000-per-week salary for the Catalan club.
Inter Milan have also emerged as contenders, inquiring about a loan deal, but United’s preference for a permanent transfer and Rashford’s high wages pose significant hurdles.
Newcastle United, previously linked with a £40m loan-to-buy offer, have confirmed they are not pursuing Rashford, limiting his Premier League options.
Rashford has ruled out moves to London rivals like Arsenal, Chelsea, or Tottenham, prioritizing a Champions League club to boost his chances of rejoining Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
With United aiming to overhaul their squad after a dismal 15th-place finish in 2024/25, Rashford’s potential exit is part of a broader strategy to fund signings like Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo or Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. As the transfer window progresses, Rashford’s next move remains a focal point, with his return to United looming if no deal is struck soon.
