Manchester United are on the verge of finalising their second major signing of the summer, having received a vital “green light” to complete a deal for Brentford’s
Bryan Mbeumo.
After an initial offer was rejected,
United have made significant progress in talks with Brentford and are now close to agreeing a fee that could reach up to £65 million.
The breakthrough comes as Brentford have secured a replacement for Mbeumo, Metz winger Cheikh Sabaly, which has allowed the London club to relax their stance and move forward with United’s negotiations.
Mbeumo, who scored 20 goals last season, has been identified as a priority target by manager Ruben Amorim as United look to overhaul their attack following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign.
The 25-year-old winger’s preference for a move to Old Trafford has also played a key role in the deal’s progress, with rival interest from Tottenham cooling after Thomas Frank’s move to Spurs.
United’s opening bid was reportedly around £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons, but the two clubs have since narrowed the gap in their valuations, reported the
Manchester Evening News. The transfer is expected to be completed in the coming days, with United eager to have Mbeumo join new signing Matheus Cunha as part of a revamped front line.
Mbeumo’s arrival is seen as a major statement of intent by United’s new regime, who are determined to add more pace, creativity, and goals to the squad.
The club’s recruitment team has been impressed by Mbeumo’s versatility and consistent performances in the Premier League, and Amorim believes he can be a central figure in United’s push to return to the top six.
Brentford’s willingness to sanction the deal after lining up Sabaly for around €10 million means United are now in the driving seat to complete the transfer.
With the final details being ironed out, all indications suggest Bryan Mbeumo will soon be unveiled as Manchester United’s latest signing, marking another step in the club’s ambitious summer rebuild
