Patrick Dorgu’s agent has sparked further speculation with a visit to Manchester with the player linked to
United.
As reported by MEN Sport, United have initiated discussions with Serie A side US Lecce over a deal for the 20-year-old left-back.
With the position a priority for
Ruben Amorim's squad, talks are ongoing, but no agreement has been reached.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested the deal could cost around €40 million (£33.8 million).
This morning, Dorgu’s agent, Kingsley Ogbodo, shared a cryptic Instagram story, featuring a selfie taken at Manchester Airport’s departures lounge.
The post was captioned: “Please remind me what time of year we are in?” While it could reference the UK's unpredictable January weather, it also seems to hint at the ongoing January transfer window.
Ogbodo has been Dorgu’s representative since his youth career at Nordsjaelland, a connection he highlighted in a May 2021 Instagram post.
In November 2023, Ogbodo and Dorgu reportedly partnered with the high-profile agency CAA Base, which represents stars like James Maddison, Heung-min Son, and Richarlison.
Dorgu has impressed since moving to Lecce, making 56 senior appearances, including 22 in Serie A this season, during which he has scored three goals and provided one assist.
While Ogbodo’s visit to Manchester could be unrelated, it has certainly intensified speculation about Dorgu’s potential transfer to Old Trafford. Fans will be watching closely as negotiations continue.
Dorgu, who has been capped four times by Denmark, has made 43 first-team appearances for Lecce having joined from Danish club Nordsjælland in 2022.
He has scored three times in Serie A this term. He signed a new contract in October that runs until 2028.
United’s squad is in need of more players suited to Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation with Dorgu, who has featured on both flanks, seen as one of that profile.
Diogo Dalot is a specialist right-back yet has been deployed in the left-wing back role, while first-choice left-back Luke Shaw has been yet to make a start in any competition this season due to injuries, having been limited to just 12 Premier League starts in 2023-24.
