Manchester United are gearing up for a seismic summer overhaul, with a £310m transfer plan that could see Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Casemiro among the high-profile departures as Rúben Amorim looks to reshape the squad.
The Red Devils, currently languishing in 13th in the Premier League with just nine games left, are desperate to reverse their fortunes after a season that has seen them exit both domestic cups and teeter on the brink in the Europa League.
Rashford, 27, has been on loan at Aston Villa since February, where he’s rediscovered some form with three assists in nine appearances, earning an England recall under Thomas Tuchel.
However, Amorim has made it clear the forward doesn’t fit his vision, stating earlier this season: “I couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it.”
Villa have an option to buy for £40m, but Mirror Football understands United have a contingency plan—a pre-agreed deal with an unnamed club for £50m if Villa balk at the fee, ensuring Rashford’s exit either way.
Sancho, 24, is another set for the chop. Currently on loan at Chelsea, where an obligation-to-buy clause kicks in if the Blues finish 14th or higher, his £25m permanent move is all but sealed.
Despite a bright start at Stamford Bridge, his form has dipped, and reports of a transfer request to return to Borussia Dortmund have surfaced—though Dortmund’s financial constraints and winger depth make it unlikely. United see his departure as a chance to offload a £73m signing who delivered just 12 goals in 83 appearances during his Old Trafford stint.
Casemiro, the 33-year-old Brazilian midfielder, rounds out the trio. Signed for £70m from Real Madrid in 2022, his hefty £350,000-a-week wages and declining mobility have made him a prime candidate for the exit door.
With two years left on his deal, United are prepared to accept a cut-price £20m to shift him, with Saudi Pro League clubs circling. His 11 goals in 98 games haven’t justified the investment, and Amorim is keen to free up funds and squad space.
Together, these three represent £310m in initial transfer fees (£86m for Rashford’s academy valuation, £73m for Sancho, £70m for Casemiro, plus £81m in amortised costs), but United could recoup around £95m if all deals go through.
The cash injection is earmarked for a new goalscorer, with Amorim desperate to address an attack that’s seen Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee muster just 14 goals in 83 appearances combined.
Names like Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres (£58.5m) and Braga’s Roger Fernandes (£33m) have been linked, though Gyokeres’ preference for Arsenal has forced United to explore alternatives.
The broader plan includes up to 10 exits, with Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton also tipped to leave—most for free as their contracts expire. Antony, on loan at Real Betis, could fetch £20m if his form holds, while Tyrell Malacia’s future remains uncertainm, reports The Mirror.
This mass exodus reflects INEOS’s push for a leaner, younger squad, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe adamant that financial pressures won’t force sales of academy stars like Kobbie Mainoo.
United’s next test comes against Nottingham Forest on April 1, but the real work begins this summer. For Amorim, shedding the £310m trio is the first step in a long road back to relevance for the Red Devils.
