Manchester United are keen to bring in Portuguese winger Francisco Trincao this summer who is set to leave Sporting Lisbon in the summer.
His performances with the Portugal national team have elevated him to one of the continent’s most in-form players. In Portugal, it’s already taken for granted that Sporting Lisbon won’t be able to hold onto him due to significant offers that could come his way.
And Barcelona have been put on notice. The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, recently spoke with Joan Laporta and Deco about the footballer’s situation to clarify what the Blaugrana club intends to do with him as well.
Trincao is enjoying an exceptional season, and AC Milan already showed interest in him during the January transfer window, though their offer fell short. Barcelona initially loaned him to Sporting, receiving €3 million, followed by a final sale of €7 million for fifty percent of the player’s rights.
The Catalan club has until 2026 to buy him back for a fee ranging between €20 million and €25 million, but Manchester United are now pressing hard to secure his signature.
Sources indicate that United, under Rúben Amorim—who knows Trincao well from their time together at Sporting—are prepared to offer upwards of €40 million, a sum that could see Barcelona pocket a substantial profit if they exercise their buy-back option and then sell him on.
The Red Devils see Trincao as a key piece to bolster their attack, which has struggled this season with just 14 goals from forwards Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee in 83 appearances combined.
With United sitting 13th in the Premier League and facing a critical summer rebuild, Amorim is reportedly pushing for the 24-year-old, whose versatility and current form—highlighted by his standout displays for club and country—make him an ideal fit.
Sporting, meanwhile, are bracing for his departure, aware that their financial muscle may not match the bids from Europe’s heavyweights.
For Barcelona, the situation presents a golden opportunity. Mendes has warned Laporta and Deco that Trincao’s market value is soaring, and a quick move could turn their initial €10 million deal into a windfall, reports Spanish outlet Sport.
If United’s €40 million interest materializes and Barça activate their €20-25 million buy-back clause, the club could net a profit of €15-20 million in a matter of months. However, Milan and other suitors remain in the mix, and Sporting’s reluctance to lose their star without a fight could complicate negotiations.
With the summer window approaching, all eyes are on Trincao—and on Barcelona’s next move. Will they cash in on their former player, or let Sporting handle the bidding war? For now, United’s pressure is mounting, and the Blaugrana stand to benefit either way.
