Man Utd plan double raid on Atlanta for highly-rated keeper and midfielder

Manchester United have intensified their summer transfer activity with an opening £34 million bid for Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, as the club looks to strengthen key areas of Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Carnesecchi, 24, is seen as an increasingly concrete target following a season in which he kept 18 clean sheets in 44 appearances for the Serie A side.

United’s interest in Carnesecchi comes amid growing concerns over Andre Onana’s future at Old Trafford.

Onana, who cost the club £47 million last summer, has struggled with costly errors, prompting United to sound out possible replacements.

Talks are progressing, with Atalanta holding out for a fee between €45–50 million (£38–43 million), but there is optimism that a deal can be struck if United increase their offer through add-ons.

The club is also exploring options to offload Onana, with Saudi Arabian clubs emerging as the most likely buyers given their willingness to spend big on the Cameroon international.

In addition to Carnesecchi, United have made a fresh enquiry for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The 25-year-old Brazilian, who has refused to sign a new contract, is attracting interest from multiple clubs, but United are keen to add his dynamism to their midfield, it is reported.

Ederson is valued at around £50 million (€59 million), and manager Ruben Amorim has personally endorsed a move for the all-action midfielder, who can operate anywhere from a defensive No. 6 to an attacking No. 10.

United’s recruitment team is casting a wide net, with ongoing interest in other goalkeepers such as Lille’s Lucas Chevalier and a Premier League-based option.

For midfield, they have also made an ambitious approach for Paris Saint-Germain’s Warren Zaire-Emery and are monitoring a £9 million midfield enforcer available this summer.

With Matheus Cunha already signed and a deal for Bryan Mbeumo nearing completion, United’s transfer activity is gathering pace as Amorim looks to reshape the squad for a new era at Old Trafford.
