Manchester United have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Italian side Lecce for the signing of Patrick Dorgu, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Dorgu will become Ruben Amorim’s first signing as United head coach, with the 20-year-old Danish left-wing-back identified early as Amorim’s top target.
Despite links to Amorim’s former Sporting Lisbon protégé Nuno Mendes, now at Paris Saint-Germain, and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, Dorgu emerged as the manager’s preferred choice.

Details of the Deal

Lecce had previously rejected two offers from the Premier League club, holding firm on their €40m (£34m) asking price.
However, United have reportedly secured an agreement at the third attempt, with Romano confirming the deal.
He said: “Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United, here we go!”
Romano continued.“Verbal agreement in place with Lecce, documents to be checked in the next 24 hours. The fee will be €30m plus €5m in add-ons not guaranteed.”
The total package for the promising wing-back is expected to be €35m (£29.3m), making Dorgu one of United’s key January acquisitions.

What to Expect from Dorgu

Jens Olsen, Dorgu’s coach during his time with Denmark’s U-19 squad, offered glowing praise for the young star.
“Patrick is fast, forward-thinking, and has a very, very good left foot,” Olsen said.
“He is creative, can solve problems on the pitch, and is effective both offensively and defensively. His ability to head the ball at both ends of the field is also a strength.”
Olsen highlighted Dorgu’s journey, noting his development at Lecce, particularly in defensive play, which had previously been an area for improvement.
“Patrick left North Zealand to take a chance in Italy, and Lecce did a great job educating him, especially in the defensive aspects of his game. I was impressed with his skills and how quickly he adapted to the national team.”

Caution from His Former Coach

While Olsen praised Dorgu’s potential, he expressed reservations about the move to Manchester United, citing the club’s current instability.
“If I have to be a little cheeky, I hope he chooses something other than Manchester United right now,” Olsen said.
“They’re in a period where things seem unstructured. While it’s hard to say no to United, sometimes a more stable environment might better suit a young player’s development.”

Amorim’s Rebuild Gains Momentum

Dorgu’s arrival signals the beginning of Amorim’s project at Manchester United as he looks to reshape the squad to fit his vision.
With the deal nearing completion, the Red Devils hope Dorgu can bring creativity, pace, and defensive solidity to their ranks.
The move is expected to be finalized in the coming days, marking an exciting chapter for both player and club.
