Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to sign Sporting CP striker
Viktor Gyokeres, with manager
Ruben Amorim making the Swedish international his top striker target for the summer window.
After missing out on Liam Delap, who opted to join Chelsea,
United have shifted their focus back to Gyokeres, who enjoyed a prolific season under Amorim in Portugal.
Gyokeres, 27, scored an astonishing 54 goals and provided 13 assists in 52 appearances last season, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most complete forwards.
Amorim, who handed Gyokeres his Sporting debut and played a key role in his development, is eager to reunite with the striker at Old Trafford.
Reports indicate that Gyokeres is “very keen” on the move and has already given his approval to join United—even in the absence of Champions League football, reported
Goal.Sporting are reportedly willing to negotiate for a fee of around £60 million, despite an £85 million release clause in Gyokeres’ contract.
United have made formal contact with Sporting to understand the terms of a potential deal, and Amorim has directly instructed the club’s hierarchy to get the transfer done.
Even with the imminent arrivals of Matheus Cunha and ongoing talks for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, United remain determined to bring in a true No.9 to lead the line.
Neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee has convinced Amorim that they can be the main striker for a team aiming to challenge at the top of the Premier League.
United are expected to be disciplined with their transfer spending, sticking to set valuations and moving quickly to secure their top targets.
The club is also anticipating significant departures this summer, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony all attracting interest and potentially generating funds for further signings.
With Amorim’s clear vision and Gyokeres’ willingness to make the switch, Manchester United are now pushing to finalize what could be one of the summer’s headline transfers, aiming to revamp their attack and return to the Premier League’s elite.
