Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, submitting an improved bid reportedly exceeding £60 million.
Mbeumo, who scored 20 goals and provided 8 assists last season, has long been admired by United scouts for his explosive pace, two-footed ability, and high work rate — traits that make him a natural fit for Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system.
According to reports from Yahoo Sports, Mbeumo is eager to join United, with sources close to the player saying he sees the move as “the biggest step” in his career.
In fact, Mbeumo revealed in a past interview that he grew up idolizing a United legend — even choosing a United shirt and number as a child.
“Bryan had Manchester United on his back before he was even a pro,” said a source. “This move means more than just football for him.”
Brentford initially rejected a £53 million offer earlier in the week, holding out for a fee closer to £65 million, but the two clubs remain in active negotiations. United’s latest proposal reportedly includes improved add-ons and a more favourable payment structure.
The 25-year-old is also believed to be seeking a significant wage increase, potentially up to £250,000 per week — a leap from his current £50,000 — though United are treading carefully due to wage structure concerns.
Amorim views Mbeumo as a priority target, especially with Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford all facing uncertain futures. United’s new-look front three could soon feature Matheus Cunha, Mbeumo, and Alejandro Garnacho — if the Argentine stays.
“We want players who are all-in, who understand the demands,” Amorim said earlier this week. “This isn’t about names, it’s about identity.”
With Mbeumo reportedly ready to say yes, all that remains is for the clubs to agree on terms. If completed, he would become United’s second major signing of the summer and a vital piece of their high-intensity rebuild.
