Marcus Rashford has been told he must play a waiting game if he hopes to sign for Barcelona this summer.
It is clear that he doesn't have a future at
Manchester United under
Ruben Amorim and Barca is his first choice to join.
Barcelona have not given up hope of signing Rashford from United, despite financial constraints and competing priorities in the transfer market.
Contrary to some earlier reports, the Catalan club continues to keep Rashford on their shortlist as a possible late-window addition, even as they focus on sealing a deal for Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.
Rashford, 27, is open to the move and has reportedly made it clear to Barcelona’s sporting director Deco that he wants to join the club.
His willingness to lower his salary and wait for the right opportunity has helped keep the door open for negotiations, even as United maintain a £40 million valuation for a permanent transfer.
However, Barcelona’s financial situation means they are not prepared to commit to a major outlay for Rashford and are instead exploring a loan deal with an option to buy, ideally with United covering a portion of his wages.
The forward, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, is seen by Barcelona as a versatile and experienced option who could provide depth across the front line, either as a winger or a central striker.
Manager Hansi Flick values Rashford’s pace and adaptability, but the club’s priority remains Nico Williams, with Rashford positioned as a potential late-market solution if other deals prove unworkable.
Rashford’s camp has also been proactive, reportedly offering his services to Barcelona and expressing his admiration for the club and its young star Lamine Yamal. While other clubs, including Newcastle, have shown interest, Rashford’s preference appears to be a move to La Liga, and specifically to Barcelona
In summary, Barcelona have not closed the door on Rashford. The club is monitoring his situation and could move for him if market conditions align, particularly if a loan arrangement with manageable financial terms can be struck with United.
With Ansu Fati going to Monaco, Barca look set to have a forward line of Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Ferrán Torres and possibly Nico Williams which would give room for one more - Rashford.
