Manchester United have postponed Antony’s return to pre-season training, granting the Brazilian winger extra time to secure a transfer away from Old Trafford as his future with the club remains in doubt.
After a successful loan spell at Real Betis during the second half of last season, both Antony and Betis are eager for a reunion, but significant financial obstacles must be overcome before a deal can be finalised.
Antony made a major impact at Betis, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 26 matches, helping the club reach the Conference League final and quickly establishing himself as a key figure in Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
His performances have convinced Betis to pursue a permanent transfer, but negotiations are complex.
Manchester United, who spent £82 million to sign Antony from Ajax in 2022, are seeking to recoup at least £32-35 million to avoid a loss under Premier League financial rules.
Meanwhile, Betis must navigate strict financial discipline, with club president Ángel Haro insisting they will not “go crazy” or jeopardize the club’s stability to complete the signing, reported ABC.
A major sticking point is Antony’s salary, believed to be around £150,000-200,000 per week—far beyond Betis’ wage structure.
However, the 25-year-old winger is reportedly willing to take a significant pay cut, with some reports suggesting up to a 30% reduction, to facilitate his return to Seville.
Betis are exploring creative solutions, including structured payments or even rare co-ownership models, to make the deal viable7.
United have also granted Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia permission to delay their pre-season returns as they seek exits, giving all five until the end of July to resolve their futures. The rest of the squad will begin pre-season as scheduled.
Betis remain optimistic, with ongoing talks and both parties motivated to find a solution.
Antony’s desire to return, combined with Betis’ determination and willingness to be “imaginative” financially, means negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks as all sides look to reach an agreement before the new season begins
