Rio Ferdinand could not believe his eyes when he witnessed Manchester United's disastrous defending in their latest Premier League clash against Everton.
Particularly, Harry Maguire's performance in the first half of the match made the situation even more bewildering for Ferdinand.
United conceded two embarrassing first-half goals, with Abdoulaye Doucoure doubling the host team Everton's advantage. The moment that caught most attention was when Maguire was easily bullied by Doucoure, which led to Everton's second goal.

Ferdinand's Unconcealed Feelings

Watching his former team in such a state, Ferdinand didn't conceal his feelings. His reaction post the goals made it clear how he felt about Maguire's performance, as well as the team's lacklustre defence strategy.
“Maguire there, he can’t stand there,” bemoaned Ferdinand when re-watching a clip of Beto racing past the static defender before squaring to Jack Harrison.
“You’ve got to run back towards your own goal, I couldn’t understand that at all. Pace isn’t a part of his game but then he gets a second opportunity to go and deal with it [when Onana parried the ball straight up]… doesn’t go and deal with it. But on the halfway line you’ve got to run back.”

Man United Fell Behind Following VAR Check

United fell behind early against Everton. The opening goal of the match was awarded after a lengthy check involving VAR. The goal came in shortly before the half-hour mark after striker, Beto, capitalized on a defensive mistake.
There was considerable uncertainty following the opening goal. Beto found the net following a poorly cleared host corner. However, the goal was under scrutiny for a potential offside. The phase of play involving goalscorer Beto and teammate Jesper Lindstrom was examined in detail.
The Premier League issued a statement confirming the outcome of the VAR check. The tweet said, 'The referee's call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR - as there was no offside offence committed by either Lindstrom or Beto.'
