Ruben Amorim has admitted to having a harder time than anticipated steering the team since his arrival at Old Trafford.
He confessed his surprise at winning just four of his first 14 Premier League matches as
Manchester United's boss.
When Amorim first entered Old Trafford in November, Manchester United were only four points away from the top four. However, today, they find themselves 15 points short.
“If you told me in the beginning that you are going to win four matches in 14, I don't believe you,” said
Amorim. “I would say you are crazy, and that for me is the hardest part.”
Amorim has lost nine out of the 21 games he led at United, eight of them were in the Premier League.
He admitted that although he was expecting some tough days, the reality has exceeded his expectations. “As a player… you know that when you get in this moment sometimes it is really hard to turn things around. And we are in this moment. So, I was expecting hard days, but not like this,” he added.
Amorim's Warning to Garnacho
Amorim has expressed his concerns about Alejandro Garnacho's performance by benching him against Everton.
Despite starting in the last three league matches, Garnacho's lack of precision in finalizing his offensive plays is showing.
The 20-year-old winger has failed to contribute much-needed goals, with a record of no goals or assists in the past 13 Premier League games. Even more, his record across all competitions includes a failure to score in 18 games.
Among all players in the Premier League who have had 10 or more significant chances, Garnacho's conversion rate is the lowest, standing at 14.3 per cent with just two goals out of 14 chances.
Impact on United's Performance
Garnacho's underperformance plays a significant role in United's lack of goals this season. They've scored only 28 times in 25 league games. This low scoring performance almost matches that of Mohamed Salah.
The club's overall shot conversion rate of 8.4 per cent makes them second-last in the Premier League, with Southampton trailing behind at 7.9 per cent.
In response to these challenges, Amorim has pushed Bruno Fernandes into a more offensive midfield position previously occupied by Garnacho, who will now sit on the bench.
Manuel Ugarte returned to the team, after missing out on the last match due to a minor injury, replacing Garnacho.
