Manchester United supporters have reacted with fury after the club confirmed a 50% increase in match-day ticket prices for the upcoming 2025/26 season.
The price hike affects general admission seats, with “Category A” fixtures—such as games against Liverpool, City, and Arsenal—now costing as much as £97 per ticket. Even lower-tier matches have seen steep rises, with average seat prices climbing from around £45 to over £70.
Fan group MUST (Manchester United Supporters’ Trust) released a scathing statement, calling the decision “a slap in the face to loyal fans who have stood by the club through its darkest years.”
The group also warned that the move could alienate younger and working-class supporters already priced out of the modern game.
This comes despite a turbulent season in which United finished 15th—one of their worst league performances in modern history—and just narrowly avoided disaster. While the club has since launched the “Project 150” rebuild under INEOS and Ruben Amorim, fans are questioning why they’re being asked to foot the bill for past failings.
Speaking this week, new CEO Omar Berrada acknowledged the frustration, admitting the club had made mistakes in pricing strategy over the years.
However, he pointed to the club’s spiralling costs and financial difficulties as a major reason behind the decision. United have reported nearly £5 billion in total losses and debt over the last five years, largely attributed to mismanagement under the Glazer regime.
“We understand this isn’t an easy message to deliver,” Berrada said, “but we believe these changes are necessary for the club’s long-term stability.”
While the club argues the increases are vital to competing financially with the game’s elite, the move has deepened mistrust among supporters. Many feel they are being punished financially for the failures of a boardroom that has only recently begun to correct course.
With tensions already high ahead of the new season, this latest development threatens to sour what was meant to be a fresh start under INEOS.
