Roy Keane did not hold back in his criticism of Manchester United’s lackluster first-half performance against Leicester City in the FA Cup.
Despite advancing to the fourth round after a penalty shootout win over Arsenal at the Emirates, United struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford, failing to test Leicester’s defense in the opening 45 minutes.
Following a disappointing 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend, manager Ruben Amorim handed Patrick Dorgu his debut after his January move from Lecce.
However, instead of playing in his natural left wing-back role, the Dane was deployed on the right, while Diogo Dalot remained on the left in an unusual tactical decision.
United’s struggles were compounded just before halftime when Bobby De Cordova-Reid opened the scoring, finishing off a slick Leicester attack.
The Foxes registered three shots on target in the first half, while United failed to produce a single effort—prompting Keane to blast their display.
Speaking on ITV at halftime, the former United captain fumed:"Shocking. Really, really poor. They're actually boring.
"You should go in the dressing room and tell the players what the game is about. The game is about putting the ball in the back of the net. And it doesn’t look like they’re even trying."
When asked if United lacked belief, Keane agreed:"There are elements of that. A lack of confidence. We look at the goal and it sums up United."
He continued his scathing assessment: "They haven’t even done the basics right. Sloppy in their play. There hasn’t been a reaction tonight. The manager has got to get stuck onto them."
In search of a second-half response, Amorim introduced Alejandro Garnacho for Dorgu, shifting Amad to a wing-back role.
The change injected some much-needed urgency into United’s attack, and it was Garnacho’s cross that led to Joshua Zirkzee’s equalizer, giving United a foothold in the match.
