Former England striker Alan Shearer has urged
Rasmus Hojlund to "keep going" amid his ongoing Manchester United goal drought.
The 22-year-old has not found the back of the net in his last 19 appearances across all competitions having initially enjoyed a bright start to life at Old Trafford.
Hojlund became
United's youngest-ever player to score and assist in the same Premier League match when he netted against Tottenham in only his second appearance for the club in September 2023.
Across the course of last season, the Dane would go on to score 16 goals in all competitions but his form has taken a turn for the worse this term under Erik ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim. Despite his ongoing dry spell in front of goal, Shearer is confident getting just one goal could transform his fortunes.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, the Premier League's record goalscorer said: "I watched him closely against Everton and I know he didn't get a goal and I know he hasn't scored in 19 games, but keep going because it only takes one to go in off your a*** or off your shoulder or off your knee and it can completely change and it can completely turnaround.
"There were opportunities there for him and he was in the right position, it's just not happening for him at this moment in time. Keep going, keep doing what you're doing and it will change because he's had a good goalscoring record before this barren run."
Meanwhile, Shearer has also suggested United's players appear to be "a little bit confused" by head coach Ruben Amorim's instructions. The Red Devils have won just two of their last 10 matches in all competitions, with Amorim still searching for the right formula at Old Trafford following his arrival from Sporting CP in November.
"I thought it was really interesting what Amorim said after the game against Everton," added Shearer. "He said, 'I know what the problem is, I just don't know how to fix it at the moment.' That's quite a big statement to come out with, but I think you can see that on the pitch because the players do look a little bit confused in terms of when to press, how to press, and what he actually wants from them."
