Gary Neville has urged Manchester United to make a move for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, describing the Dutch international as “unbelievable” and a perfect fit for the system under Ruben Amorim.
Dumfries, who has become one of Europe’s top wing-backs since joining Inter in 2021, has enjoyed a standout season, helping Inter reach the Champions League final and contributing 10 goals and six assists in 41 appearances.
Neville highlighted Dumfries’ performances, particularly his dominant displays against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, where he scored twice and provided three assists.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Neville said, “With United playing with their back five and the wing-backs, I was thinking about that right wing-back Dumfries, for United. I’d like to see him in the Premier League. Dumfries, how good was he? Unbelievable. He’s so good, he’s so good.”
Manchester United are not alone in their admiration for Dumfries. Liverpool are also reportedly interested, with Alan Shearer suggesting the wing-back would be a strong replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is tipped to join Real Madrid.
Shearer praised Dumfries’ energy and attacking output, noting his impact in big European matches and suggesting he would be a valuable addition for any Premier League side.
Dumfries’ attacking prowess and suitability for a wing-back role make him an ideal candidate for Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system at United. However, with Liverpool and potentially other top clubs in the mix, United may need to act quickly if they want to secure his signature ahead of their rivals.
Dumfries is arguably the key reason that Inter have reached the Champions League final as he ran Barcelona ragged at times.
