Manchester United keeper Altay Bayindir is reportedly pushing for an exit and the club is following highly rated Anthony Patterson at Sunderland.
Bayindir joined United in 2023 but he still hasn't made his debut in the Premier League. And with
Andre Onana in form it means he is unlikely to get many chances in the foreseeable future.
If Bayindir does leave then Patterson is an option to join in January due to his good club form.
Limited opportunities
Bayindir joined United during the summer transfer window in 2023.
Despite being a successful goalkeeper for Fenerbahce prior to this move, Bayindir's pitch time at
Man Utd has been minimal.
He has only featured three times, with appearances in the FA Cup and in the League Cup.
There are growing reports that Bayindir may leave the club in January due to dissatisfaction with the limited opportunity to play. Though United prefer not to sell mid-season, Bayindir might force them to reconsider if he pushes for a transfer.
Patterson as a replacement?
If Bayindir does leave, it is reported that Man Utd could turn to Patterson, as they are reluctant to rely solely on veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton if Onana becomes unavailable.
If United show move for Patterson, they may face competition from clubs like Tottenham who have also been following him.
With Heaton’s age being a potential point of concern for United, finding a suitable replacement if Bayindir leaves becomes crucial. Heaton, at 38, has had limited playing time since re-joining Man Utd in 2021.
United have also shown surprising interest in
Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Despite uncertainty about his future, Meret has remained Napoli's number one stopper, contributing significantly to their current lead in the Serie A table. He is also a member of the Italy national squad and so it is also unlikely that he would be willing to spend his time at Old Trafford sat on the bench.
