Manchester United fans' frustrations over the club’s lack of movement in the January transfer window were further justified in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Many believe that United failed to support Ruben Amorim, leaving him to struggle without replacements for Marcus Rashford and Antony.
With Rashford and Antony departing on loan to Aston Villa and Real Betis, respectively, United’s attack became even thinner than when Amorim arrived in November.
The club pursued Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel but ultimately refused to meet the Bundesliga side’s financial demands, opting to stick with their current options.
Given United have now scored just 28 goals in 25 league matches—failing to score in nine of them—fans are outraged.

Fan Backlash Over Transfer Inactivity

The reaction on social media was fierce, with some predicting Amorim will be sacked before he receives proper backing.
  • @TheElitePundit: "They are going to sack Amorim. Watch. They don't want to back him."
  • @rxnpixels: "Genuinely wouldn’t blame Amorim for walking away tonight. Club is a shambles! He does United a favour by joining mid-season, and this is how the Glazers and INEOS repay him…."
  • @MelbourneBlokee: "Honestly, Rashford and Antony gone. No signings? If I was Ruben Amorim, hand on my heart, I’d quit. Absolute shambles from top to bottom. Embarrassing from every single person that runs that club."
  • @grholmes39: "I cannot believe @ManUtd and INEOS have not backed Ruben Amorim. They’ve screwed him and the fans over. Ruben needs to leave before he's damaged goods. He’s already showing signs of stress."

United’s Goal Drought Continues

United’s lack of attacking firepower was glaring against Spurs. Tottenham, winless at home in the league since early November, were vulnerable—but Amorim’s side failed to capitalize.
Rasmus Højlund fired straight at Guglielmo Vicario when well-placed. Moments later, Alejandro Garnacho blazed over the bar despite having time and space. In the second half, Joshua Zirkzee—who otherwise had a solid game—sent a free header wide.
It was a familiar story: wasted opportunities, a lack of cutting edge, and ultimately, another defeat—their eighth in 14 league games under Amorim.

Where Will United’s Goals Come From?

Financial constraints may have prevented United from adding firepower in January, but their attacking struggles are now impossible to ignore. Amorim’s reluctance to throw young Chido Obi into the mix—giving him just two minutes at the end—suggests the 17-year-old isn’t quite ready for a major role.
If that’s the case, it raises a troubling question: Where are United’s goals going to come from?
