Ange Postecoglou, following a commendable win by Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester United, had a strong message for his counterpart,
Ruben Amorim.
James Maddison's 13th-minute goal was enough for Spurs to secure a crucial victory, with Postecoglou unyielding in his view on the struggles faced by other teams.
United were hamstrung for this game due to injury issues. Indeed, Victor Lindelof was the only senior player available on the bench, with the rest being academy stars.
Despite these odds, Postecoglou had no sympathy for his opposite number. Post-match, Postecoglou commented specifically on his counterpart's predicament: '
Man Utd with many injured players? If I check my office, I don’t have any sympathy cards from other coaches.
"He (Amorim)'s had to play players out of position and have kids on the bench. Welcome to my world. It's one game. Try doing that for two months.' Despite these words, he did acknowledge that Man Utd put on a good performance.
United's Performance Record
United have continued to struggle this season, losing 12 of their 25 Premier League games so far. This represents their worst start since the 1973-74 season, hinting at potentially rough waters ahead. Pundit Jamie Redknapp added fuel to the fire by predicting 18 months of pain for the team.
Contrastingly, Tottenham's key player, Maddison returned from injury, aiding in their victory. The team also welcomed back Destiny Udogie as it begins to overcome its own brush with injury-related setbacks.
Ruben Amorim, has faced significant backlash from the club's supporters over his decision to give Chido Obi just three minutes playtime in the recent match against Tottenham. Amidst the dissatisfaction, Amorim has staunchly defended his decision.
Side-Lined Substitutes
Frustrations grew among Man Utd's supporters as they watched their team chase a goal without the support of their substitutes. A particularly sore point was the 91st minute introduction of Chido Obi, when the game had only three minutes left. This move attracted considerable outrage.
Due to an unfortunate series of injury and illness over the past week, Amorim was left with an average substitute bench aged 19.3. With 12 senior players unavailable, this resulted in naming Obi amongst the substitutes.
However, fans were left disgruntled as the coach retained trust in his 11 starters to respond to the first-half opener by Maddison.
Fans took to social media to voice their disappointment at Amorim. One supporter wrote on Twitter, "Three minutes for Obi is an insult." As the Red Devils' situation continues, it is expected that Amorim will have to listen to the mounting dissatisfaction and perhaps reassess his game strategies for the future.
