Alejandro Garnacho is finally due to complete a £50million move to Chelsea before the transfer window closes this week.
After weeks of speculation, reports suggest that Chelsea are prepared to meet United’s £50 million valuation after the player agreed personal terms with the west London club.
The move would represent one of the most high-profile transfers of the summer, as Garnacho has been viewed as one of United’s brightest prospects since his breakthrough under Erik ten Hag.
Despite his popularity with supporters, United have found themselves in a difficult position. Manager Ruben Amorim is still shaping his squad and believes funds from Garnacho’s sale could be vital in recruiting reinforcements across multiple positions.
However, the loss of the Argentina international would be a blow to United’s attacking depth, particularly given his versatility on both flanks.
Garnacho, who joined United’s academy from Atlético Madrid in 2020, has made over 80 senior appearances for the club, providing a mix of explosive pace and fearless dribbling that made him a fan favourite.
He was seen as a key player last season under Amorim who continued to use him while at the same time sidelining Marcus Rashford, but Garnacho struggled with his final product - whether a shot or cross.
Chelsea’s interest comes amid their own rebuild, with manager Enzo Maresca keen to inject more creativity and directness into his frontline, reported TalkSPORT.
Garnacho’s profile fits their vision of signing emerging talents capable of long-term development, but the move will inevitably raise questions among United supporters frustrated by the club’s willingness to part with young stars.
United are reportedly already exploring attacking reinforcements, while also targeting Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens in a separate £17 million deal.
Still, Amorim has admitted that the squad is in a transitional phase and will need time to find balance.
With the transfer deadline looming, Garnacho’s exit could be sealed within days, marking a significant chapter in United’s ongoing restructuring. For fans, it will be bittersweet: the loss of a homegrown favourite, but potentially a financial step toward Amorim’s long-term rebuild.
